Early Retirement Approved!

On April 5, 2021, I received the news that my employer has approved my request for early retirement!  July 31st will be my official retirement date, and then a whole new adventure begins.  

As you might imagine, we immediately started planning our relocation.  There is a lot to do between now and then, but the biggest task was to sell our house in California.  That took less that 2 weeks in this hot sellers market.  I decided to go with a fee-based home buying service known as Opendoor.com.  Let me tell you, I could not be happier.  I sat down and made a spreadsheet of what I would like to net from selling my house.  I bought this house in December 2017, and the housing market has been super hot lately.  Opendoor made me a perfect offer that checked off all the categories in my checklist/spreadsheet, and I signed a contract for even more than I had anticipated.  As I had hoped, the idea was to net enough from the equity in my house to design and build our house in Vietnam.  I want to retire on my pension and not have to really touch my 401k for as long as possible.  Having no mortgage in Vietnam will make that possible.

Now, the big question remains. . . will Vietnam let us enter the country under the current Covid-19 restrictions. . .we are hoping things will be more permissive in August 2021.  Meanwhile, we are all getting our Covid vaccinations.  My second shot will be this coming Wednesday.
